shopoakland_pattyrogers (1).png

Shopping in the East Bay is exciting and eclectic.

I keep my eyes open for local business and shops that are unique and make for interesting destination shopping. Here's the first in my Shopping in Oakland and Shopping in Berkeley posts! #shoplocal #supportsmallbusiness

For a gift giving treasure trove and a bit of self indulgence visit the unique and splendid Gypsy Road Studio at 4125 Piedmont Ave, Oakland.

This funky and fun shop features vintage jewelry, tribal, art, collectibles, some clothing and a few pieces of well chosen furniture from all parts of the world.

A great shop to browse in and purchase something beautiful. I’m a fan of their jewelrey, art and home accessories that have an eclectic world vibe. They even offer 10% off during your birthday month with ID. gypsyroadstudio.com

Stay tuned for more Shopping destinations. Shop and enjoy the Oakland lifestyle!

East Bay Farmers Markets - A Fun Option!

pattyrogers_farmersmarkets.png

Farmers Markets are a great place to do your produce and gourmet shopping, mingle with your neighbors, get to know the farmers and vendors and connect with where your food comes from.

Here are my favorite Thursday, Saturday and Sunday Farmers Market's in Oakland and Berkeley:

THURSDAY

North Berkeley Farmers Market - from 3pm-7pm. On Shattuck Ave & Rose St. in the Gourmet Ghetto. Surprise, this Market is ALL ORGANIC!! WEBSITE

SATURDAY

Oakland Farmers Market at Grand Lake on Lake Park Ave in Oakland - from 9am-1pm. In 2010 the East Bay Express voted this favorite Farmer's Market and that hasn't changed. WEBSITE

Downtown Berkeley Farmers Market on the frontage road next to CVS at 2300 Shattuck Ave - from 10am-3pm. This market was recently forced to move from the Shattuck Commons but still boasts some pre-made food and some of the most dedicated vendors. WEBSITE

SUNDAY

Cuesa's Farmers Market at Jack London Square on Broadway in Oakland - from 10am-3pm.  Taking place rain or shine this is the market to take the kids and do more than shop. There is live music, yoga and activities for kids and of course, you're at Jack London Square. WEBSITE

Antiquing in the East Bay - Plenty of Great Finds!

Bay area interior design lends to mixing antiques with modern furniture, or for an authentic look go total vintage if you own a turn of the century home. Any interior design plan will benefit from well sourced vintage items. Sourcing that special mirror, lamp or chair can make a room unique and special. If you are a DIY'er you might try your hand at refinishing or restoring an old piece of furniture to match your design theme. Here are a few stores and antique fairs to frequent in the East Bay for that one-of-a-kind antique that will add personality to your home.

Alameda Point Antiques Fair - Main Street, Alameda Point, 510-522-7500

On the first Sunday of every month attend a large outdoor antiques fair and flea market in the Former Alameda Point Naval Air station featuring  over 800 outdoor dealers and vendors with free parking and great view of the city and the bay. All items must be at least 20 years old and no reproductions are allowed. Admission Cost is $15 before 7am when vendors are setting up before the crowds come and after $5 after 9am, when some of the most coveted items may be spoken for.

Something To Sell About - 380 4th St., Oakland, 510-444-2159

People say this store has the best bargains and are very fair in buying and selling. They are also an estate appraiser and hold on-premise estate sales in Oakland. They also have a warehouse showroom at Jack London Square where they offer antiques and fine furnishings.

Antique Center - 6519 Telegraph Ave., Oakland, CA 94609 510-654-3717

In Oaklands' Rockridge Neighborhood, nestled in a red Victorian building, you will find an antique store filled with tribal rugs, gorgeous light fixtures  in three rooms of reasonably priced offerings. Open for 50+ years this is the type of store where you get to dig around to find your treasure. This is a cash only store.

twolane.jpg

Two Lane Antiques - 2994 Adeline St., Berkeley, Ca 94703, 510-523-0895

In good weather you will find this slightly hidden gem of a store by the items that may have spilled onto the sidewalk in front. Find china, mirrors, costume jewelry, clocks, vases and artifacts for prices that are surprisingly low.

Mixed Pickles Antiques - 6395 Telegraph Ave., Oakland, CA 94609 510-541-1697

Here is a mixture of antiques, fashion accessories, smaller furnishing, toys, dishware and tons of useful items. There are hand-crafted items, some new items and fantastic vintage clothing. The owners are friendly, talkative and knowledgeable and make sure to offer a revolving inventory which keeps shoppers coming back again and again.

Make sure to bring cash when antique shopping. Many vendors do not accept credit cards and its' always easier to bargain in cash, especially if you are buying several items. Antiquing in the East Bay is a great day out with so many wonderful stores to peruse.
